PROJECT: Ballencreiff Steading conversion.

LOCATION: Ballencreiff, East Lothian

CLIENT: GAP Residential Limited

STATUS: Completed on site 2006

DESCRIPTION: Conversion of existing farm steading to form 18 houses.

This existing unlisted steading was carefully subdivided to create 2 and 3 bed individual houses, while maintaining the character of the original farm building. Each house was designed with its own private garden as well as enjoying landscaped communal spaces.

Although the principal elements of the steading were retained and converted, many of the structurally unstable, peripheral buildings required taking down and careful rebuilding. There were also some elements of completely new-build construction. Gilberts worked closely with specialist stonemasons to replicate the original stone and mortar detailing, using three different types of locally sourced sandstone

Work began in summer 2005 and the development was completed on site in 2006.
