PROJECT: Bonnington Mills

LOCATION: Newhaven Road, Edinburgh

CLIENT: Queensberry Properties Ltd.

STATUS: Planning application 2017

DESCRIPTION: A development of 52 one, two and three bed flats, arranged over four and five storeys, for Queensberry Properties.

An application for Planning consent was lodged in March 2017 following an extensive pre-application consultation process involving local residents, businesses and Leith Central Community Council.

Bonnington Mills lies within a formerly semi-industrial area of the city which has gradually been transformed to residential use during the last ten years. The site was historically used as a paper mill and more recently for small commercial units.

The proposed flats are arranged between three main blocks, two located on the river side providing views up and down the Water of Leith, while the third block addresses Newhaven Road. The development creates a courtyard in the centre of the site which provides car parking and access for servicing. Amenity space is concentrated next to the river, while a pedestrian/cycle link is proposed giving direct access to the Water of Leith Walkway.
