PROJECT: Cramond Residence
LOCATION: Cramond Road North, Edinburgh.

DESCRIPTION: A new 74-bedroom care home.
Walker Healthcare Limited commissioned Gilberts to make modifications to a care home design the that they obtained Planning Consent for in 2014 with an ambition to make the best quality care home in Edinburgh.
The design is a careful exercise in crafting a very large building to fit in with the suburban scale of the Cramond townscape. To achieve this the wings of the building are modelled as terraces of individual townhouse segments which address two landscape courts. The south facing courts uses the topography of the site to form a secluded and secure garden for the residents.
The materials used externally combine traditional Cramond pantiles and render with contemporary zinc detail and, although the original natural stone has been lost to the project budget, the cast stone as been carefully detailed to retain variety and warmth.
Cramond Residence is due to open in May 2018.
