Internal refit of Ellen’s Glen and Ferryfield Community Hospitals

Fit-out of existing Community Hospitals to enable the re-housing of patients and staff from Liberton Hospital.

Gilberts were involved in the fit-out of two community hospitals managed by Walker Healthcare, re-designing existing wards which previously accommodated elderly and psychiatric patients, to allow staff from the now closed Liberton Hospital to be re-located.   

The work was phased so the most vulnerable patient groups were re-housed first, before the remaining accommodation was refurbished to provide a new day hospital wing for out-patients requiring physiotherapy, and a new base for Hospital-at-Home staff.

The refit at Ferryfield was completed in April 2025 with patients moving into the refurbished ward soon after.

Work started on site at Ellen’s Glen with contractor OCS Ltd in Spring 2025 and the project was completed in January 2026.
