PROJECT: New houses at Duthil,

LOCATION: Duthil, by Carrbridge, Speyside, Highlands

CLIENT: Bespoke Highland Homes Ltd.

STATUS: Completed on site 2017

DESCRIPTION: A development of two large houses in rural Speyside.

Commanding spectacular views over the Cairngorm mountain range to the south, this rural Speyside site lies three miles from the village of Carrbridge and just 6 miles from the main A9 trunk road. Gilberts were approached to design two large 4-5 bed luxury houses on the former steading site, which had an existing Planning consent for three smaller properties.

Both houses were designed to be ‘L-shaped’ in plan, one cranked to respond to the corner of the site and the other more orthogonal, sitting in the position of the former steading. Each has its principal reception accommodation orientated towards the views to the south, with a subsidiary bedroom wing and detached double garage beyond. The houses have barrel vaulted, open plan living/kitchen dining rooms, with direct access onto covered balconies to the south gable.

The materials used were a mixture of sandstone and render, with natural slate roofs and timber cladding to the gable balconies.
