DESCRIPTION: Development of 12 new flats for social rent.
This is the second phase of the development of Harbour Street / Fort Road for Hjaltland Housing Association which began with Excelsior Place.
The 12 flats are a mix of single and two-person properties arranged a central stair with all flats having living rooms which face the street. The theme of the first phase is continued with masonry and rendered walls and maintenance free larch at high level.
The design arranges the building into two gables facing the street with an entrance “lane” between to reflect the traditional Lerwick street typology. The flats are designed to be highly fuel efficient with the use of triple glazing, district heating and mechanical ventilation heat recovery systems.
